Buttonhole stitch | Japanese Serizawa - August
One of 78 books beautifully made by Mary McCarthy, an out-of-state customer who became inspired by a Serizawa-calendar-page journal she bought at Bari Zaki Studio several years ago. She loves making these books, and has given them all to BZS, purely & simply to spread beauty and joy. I am selling each of Mary’s books for $88 (a felicitous number in Japanese culture) and donating the net proceeds to two organizations near and dear to my bookbinding heart: the Newberry Library and Artist Book House, both in Chicago. The founder of Artist Book House is Audrey Niffenegger, author of “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and illustrator of Lady BZS (the woman topped by an open book in my logo). You can read more about Mary in chatty detail here.
